Gunung Kinabalu terletak di sebelah utara pulau Kalimantan Gunung Kinabalu terletak di sebelah utara pulau Kalimantan, tepatnya di Taman Nasional Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Taman ini berjarak 90 km dari kota Kinabalu,dapat ditempuh dengan menggunakan minibus jurusan Kinabalu – Ranau turun di Taman Nasional Kinabalu. Dijuluki sebagai "Puncak Borneo", Kinabalu merupakan gunung yang menjulang di atas dataran pantai barat laut Sabah dan berada di antara dua gunung "pengawal" yang mengapit, yakni Tambuyukon (2.576 meter) dan Trus Madi (2.597 meter). Menurut penelitian, Kinabalu merupakan "gunung non-api" termuda di dunia yang telah terbentuk penuh. Gunung ini merupakan hasil intrusi granit yang terbentuk 15 juta tahun lalu oleh suatu bola raksasa yang mengeras dari batuan meleleh (pluton) yang tertekan di bawah batuan endapan kala Jajaran Croker.
